Best Ring Configurator Apps for Shopify in 2026: Lustriel vs Zakeke vs DIY
Disclosure up front: we make Lustriel, one of the configurators compared below. To keep this useful anyway, every competitor claim was checked against the vendor's own public pricing and product pages at the time of writing, we include the honest option that costs nothing (building it with Shopify's native tools), and we tell you plainly which stores should not buy our product. If anything below is out of date, tell us and we'll fix it.
What a ring configurator actually has to do
"Let shoppers design their own ring" hides three genuinely hard problems:
- Combinatorics. A modest programme — 40 settings × 4 metals × 30 centre stones — is 4,800 combinations. Nobody photographs 4,800 rings, and Shopify's native variant limit doesn't get close.
- Live pricing. Gold and diamond prices move. A configurator that quotes from a static spreadsheet quietly sells at yesterday's metal price — in the wrong direction, that's your margin.
- Fulfilment. A beautiful configuration is worthless if it doesn't map to something your bench or your supplier can actually make, at a cost you actually know.
The three approaches below solve different subsets of those problems. That — more than price — is what should drive the choice.
Option 1: Zakeke — the general-purpose customizer
Zakeke is a visual-commerce platform: 2D/3D product customization and configuration across many product categories — apparel, packaging, furniture, gifts, and yes, jewelry. It's a mature product with a large install base, and if you sell customizable products beyond jewelry, one platform covering all of them is a real argument.
Its published pricing (vendor pricing page, at the time of writing) works differently from most Shopify apps, and the details matter:
- Starter — €59/month: up to 10 customizable products, plus a 1.9% transaction fee on each customized product sale
- Grow — €110/month: up to 50 products, 1.7% per-sale fee
- Scale — €255/month: up to 100 products, 1.5% per-sale fee
- 14-day free trial
Run the numbers for a jewelry store specifically. Rings are high-ticket: on a €3,000 custom engagement ring, a 1.9% fee is €57 — roughly a second monthly subscription on every single sale. Ten custom rings a month at that average adds ~€570/month in fees on top of the €59 plan. And the product caps bite differently in jewelry too: if each setting is a "customizable product", a 10-product cap is a very small catalogue for a jeweller.
Where Zakeke is genuinely the right answer: mixed-catalogue stores (jewelry plus engraving plus merch), stores that want 3D/AR previews across many categories, and lower-ticket customization where a ~2% fee is pennies. It's a good product; it just wasn't built around the economics of a €3,000 ring.
Option 2: Lustriel — the jewelry-specific configurator (ours)
Lustriel is built for one job: ring configurators for jewellers who work with Stuller — the US jewelry supplier whose catalogue many independent jewellers already build from. That focus changes the design:
- Stuller-native catalogue. Settings, stones, and metals come from Stuller's own data and imagery — you're not photographing combinations or hand-building a product matrix. What the shopper configures is something Stuller can actually supply.
- Live pricing. Prices track current Stuller data with your margin rules applied, so metal-price moves don't silently eat your markup.
- Flat pricing, no per-sale fee: $29 / $79 / $199 per month (14-day free trial). Sell one ring or thirty — the software costs the same. On high-ticket custom work, flat beats percentage very quickly: that €57-per-ring example above is $0 on Lustriel.
Where Lustriel is the wrong answer — honestly: if you don't source from Stuller, its core advantage evaporates and you shouldn't buy it. If you need customization across non-jewelry categories, Zakeke's breadth wins. And it's a newer product from a small developer — if vendor size matters to you, that's a fair reason to hesitate (support goes straight to the people who build it, which we'd argue is the upside of the same fact).
One logistics note at the time of writing: Lustriel runs as a standalone web app with Shopify integration — start from the Lustriel page. More background in our guide to selling custom rings online.
Option 3: DIY with Shopify variants — the honest free option
If your custom programme is genuinely small — a handful of settings, three metals, a short list of stones — you may not need a configurator app at all. Shopify's native options/variants, line-item properties, or a simple "enquire about this design" form can carry a small programme for €0/month.
The limits are real: Shopify caps variants per product (far below ring-combinatorics numbers), there's no visual preview of combinations, and pricing is static — you're updating it by hand when metals move. But "a form and a phone call" closes plenty of custom work at independent jewellers, and it's a legitimate way to validate demand before paying for software. If enquiries outgrow the inbox, that's the signal to graduate to option 1 or 2.

The decision in three questions
- Do you source from Stuller? Yes → Lustriel's catalogue-and-live-pricing integration is the whole point; start there. No → cross it off, seriously.
- Is custom jewelry high-ticket for you? If your average custom sale is four figures, model the percentage fee before choosing a percentage-fee product. Flat pricing exists precisely for this economics.
- Is the programme big enough for software at all? A handful of enquiries a month → start DIY, spend the software budget on photography, graduate later.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best ring configurator app for Shopify?
It depends on your supply chain. For jewellers who source from Stuller, Lustriel is purpose-built: Stuller-native catalogue and imagery, live pricing with your margins, and flat $29–$199/month pricing with no per-sale fee. For mixed-catalogue stores customizing many product types, Zakeke's general 2D/3D platform (€59–€255/month plus a 1.5–1.9% fee per customized sale, at the time of writing) covers more categories. Very small custom programmes can start free with Shopify's native variants and an enquiry form.
How much does a jewelry configurator cost per sale?
That's the question percentage-fee pricing hides: on Zakeke's Starter plan, the published 1.9% transaction fee on a €3,000 custom ring is about €57 for that one sale — on top of the monthly subscription. Flat-priced tools like Lustriel ($29–$199/month) charge nothing per sale, which is why flat pricing tends to win specifically in high-ticket categories like custom rings.
Can I build a ring configurator without an app?
For a small programme, yes: Shopify options/variants plus line-item properties or an enquiry form handles a short list of settings, metals, and stones at no software cost. The trade-offs are Shopify's variant cap (well below real ring combinatorics), no visual preview, and hand-maintained pricing that goes stale when metal prices move. It's a sensible way to validate demand before paying for a dedicated configurator.
